OUR HISTORY
OUR HISTORY STARTS WITH ALBERTA GREISS BOONE— THE REAL-LIFE ROSIE THE RIVETER
In 1940, through tenacity, determination, and pure hard work, Alberta Boone purchased and ran a restaurant on the ground floor of Detroit’s General Motors Building. After the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, the General Motors Building became the Arsenal of Democracy’s headquarters and Alberta Boone turned her restaurant into a munitions production line. We are rooted in her legacy and working to build an Arsenal of Democracy to overcome today’s challenges.
